Many patients include people with degenerative conditions such as lower back pain and neck pain, arthritis and sports-related injuries, or who have been victims of motor vehicle or work-related accidents.

After obtaining your past medical history and assessing your strength, range of motion, flexibility, joint stability, balance and coordination our physical therapists will formulate a treatment plan to address your deficits. The Forest Hills Rehabilitation physical therapy team will help determine your ability to become independent and regain your role in the community, family or workplace, through education, home exercise programs and physical therapy techniques.

Why do you need a Physical Therapist?

Back Pain - Neck Pain - Shoulder / Elbow Pain

Wrist / Hand Pain - Hip Pain - Knee Pain

How is Forest Hills Rehabilitation Different?

Many offices promise quality care only to find out that after the first visit, you never see the actual physical therapist again or at least until the next evaluation date.

At this office we only employ NYS licensed physical therapists, as opposed to the aides or assistants you find at other neighborhood offices. Three fully licensed physical therapists, with extensive training in outpatient care will be available for you at every session.

Additionally you will have access to our full-time personal trainers, all of whom are supervised by our tenured medical physicians.

Provided there are no contraindications you will receive hands-on physical therapy at every treatment session.

You will also receive active instruction custom tailored for you - not standard hand-out sheets. When you follow through with your physical therapy plan, you can expect to not only be free from pain, but you will be more flexible, stronger, and healthier than ever before!

We are easily accessible by all public transportation, accept all major insurance plans, and offer early morning, late evening, and Saturday hours to fit your busy schedule.

If you have been searching for an exceptional physical therapy rehabilitation clinic, or if you have experienced back pain, neck pain, knee pain, shoulder pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, sciatica, sports injury, or car accident injury you may be a candidate for conservative physical therapy at our Forest Hills office. Our chiropractors diagnose and treat "neuromusculoskeletal" injuries and pain. For the most part - pain, numbness, or tingling anywhere in your body makes you a possible candidate.

Thousands of patients like you have consulted the chiropractors at Forest Hills Rehabilitation for conditions such as:

* acute or chronic low back pain - including sacroiliac problems
* acute or chronic mid back pain
* acute or chronic neck pain
* headaches (tension and migraine)
* pain radiating to arms or legs
* acute mechanical injuries
* acute or chronic overuse related pain syndromes

We focus on treatment of musculoskeletal conditions that have strong evidence for the effectiveness of chiropractic care. We use scientifically sound concepts to evaluate the effectiveness of our treatment for each patient as we determine whether to continue care, discharge, or refer to another type of doctor.

Our chiropractors use very mainstream, scientifically valid examination procedures, including standard orthopedic testing, range of motion assessments, and palpation (both dynamic and static).

We use very broadly-accepted, mainstream manual adjusting techniques and stationary tables. We are willing to incorporate any scientifically valid physiotherapy procedures that we are licensed to provide if we think they will cost-effectively hasten your recovery.

We feel an ethical obligation to do everything we can to help you avoid repeat episodes of your problem or to help you have less chronic pain, which is why we place a high priority on exercise, biomechanics, and other educational preventive measures.

How Long Will It Take?

Conditions are as individual as people. Obviously a 15 year old boy with no health problems will recover faster from a low back sprain, than an 80 year old diabetic, with the same injury. Healing times vary and there are many circumstances affecting your rate of recovery. Years of experience helps our chiropractors to establish a diagnosis and prognosis specifically for you based on your particular situation, compared to our experiences treating similar conditions. Only a trained professional can make that assessment. Following your comprehensive history and examination, our chiropractors will provide you a written protocol before initiating treatment, thus allowing you to be better informed from the very beginning. Feel free to call us today or stop by for a FREE pre-treatment office tour to learn what we are all about.

What Can I Expect When I Visit Forest Hills Rehabilitation?

We consider it a privilege to have the opportunity to assist you in your journey toward optimal health. We believe that a team approach will optimize patient recovery and we are happy to participate. Your chiropractic treatment protocol will be modified as medically necessary. If you are not seeing signs of improvement within a few days to a couple of weeks, depending on the problem, we will consult with the most appropriate specialist, be it neurology, orthopedics, or pain management.

We have been providing outstanding chiropractic care in Forest Hills since 1997. Our chiropractic doctors have lectured throughout our community and have served thousands of our local residents. Please visit the "about us" section of our website to meet our doctors.

We are easily accessible by all public transportation, accept all major insurance plans, and offer early morning, late evening, and Saturday hours to fit your busy schedule.

Normal muscle contracts and relaxes when it is active. A trigger point is a knot or tight, ropy band of muscle that forms when muscle fails to relax. The knot often can be felt under the skin and may twitch involuntarily when touched (called a jump sign). The trigger point can trap or irritate surrounding nerves and cause “referred pain” — pain felt in another part of the body. Scar tissue, loss of range of motion, and weakness may develop over time.

What is a trigger point injection?

Trigger point injections (TPI) are used to release painful spasms inside individual muscles. Trigger point injections utilize lidocaine a local anesthetic (not a steroid), the same medicine used by dentists in children and adults when filling a cavity for example. The dosage used is very small, and only lidocaine free of any preservatives is used. Patients usually experience a substantial decrease in symptoms and an increase in overall progression towards healing. Therapy sessions preceded by trigger point injections have shown substantial improvements in both pain and function versus sessions without. There are very few contraindications, though results can be quite profound.

Therapeutic Protocol:

When used in conjunction with physical therapy, stretching, and joint mobilization, the effects are even more profound. In addition to decreasing pain, Lidocaine can prevent guarding allowing for a more meaningful therapy session, thus shortening your treatment protocol.

Benefit Summary:

Immediate pain relief
Mild anti-inflammatory
Decreased guarding
Breakdown of scar tissue
Improved ranges of motion
Improved stretching and therapy session
Decreased overall time to completion of treatment protocol

The Kinesio Taping® Method enhances the body’s natural healing process and provides support through the muscles.

How can something so gentle be so effective to reduce back pain, neck pain, shoulder pain, or knee pain?

KTM allows for full range of motion.  It does not negatively affect circulation, since there is no wrapping, and therefore no impediment of blood flow. KTM is a “light” modality. In rehabilitative applications it works continuously, so each treatment can continue for 2 to 3 days. KTM is like having healing hands to put on the area 24 - 7.

To illustrate: When you bump your knee, your elbow, your head, (any part of your body) what is your first, unthinking response? You rub on it.

That works; it feels better. Why?

What is in effect here is something called Gate Control Theory: The rubbing provides a distraction, impeding the brain’s message of pain, closing the “gate” on pain receptors, at least temporarily.  But this sensation effect is only the beginning.

Dr. Kase bases his techniques on three important concepts. They are Space, Movement and Cooling. Muscles that are painful and/or inflamed lack space.  When the Kinesio Taping Method technique is applied to create space, it is helpful in and of itself, but also leads to the opportunity for improved movement and circulation. This space and movement then allows for cooling of the affected muscles, often combined with cryotherapy.

By targeting different receptors within the somatosensory system, the Kinesio Taping Method alleviates pain and facilitates lymphatic drainage by microscopically lifting the skin.  This lifting affect forms convolutions in the skin thus increasing interstitial space and allowing for a decrease in inflammation of the affected areas.
The Kinesio Taping Method starts with two basic muscle taping techniques. These are used to balance muscles and bring them up to functional level. The first is applied for overuse and acute injuries and for rehabilitation. In such cases the tape is applied insertion to origin. The second is applied for increased muscle function and to address chronic conditions. Origin to insertion taping is used here.

In addition to these basic techniques, there are many correctional procedures that deal with positioning as well as other specific purposes such as pain relief. All the correctional procedures are specific, including treatments for cerebral palsy, pediatric needs, lymphedema and a host of other specific conditions.

The following areas are addressed by correctional procedures:
Mechanical Correction
Fascia (Fascial) Correction
Space Correction
Ligament/Tendon Correction
Functional Correction
Circulatory/Lymphatic Correction

The Kinesio Taping® Method has been shown to have positive physiological effects on the skin, lymphatic and circulatory system, fascia, muscles, ligaments, tendons, and joints. It can be used in conjunction with a multitude of other treatments and modalities, and is effective during the acute, chronic and rehabilitative phases of injury as well as for preventative measures.
